Coastal
serves as manager adviser or promoter to a number of
collective investment schemes that have as a common
objective to generate absolute returns with less than usual
market volatility.
For those
who do not wish to invest in our existing fund products, Coastal
can provide absolute return investment
management services to institutions corporations and wealthy investors on a
"managed account" basis. With a managed
account, securities (including securities issued by hedge
funds) are purchased and sold in the name of the client rather
than through a fund structure.
Managed
accounts can either be set up with Coastal Capital acting as
the sole portfolio manager or we can provide a multi-manager
or fund of funds solution in conjunction with our offshore hedge fund partners,
Magnum Fund
Management.
A
managed securities account provides clients with the ability
to:
-
Be
involved in determining how the account will be managed,
for example the client can determine:
-
the
investment strategies to be used
(see strategies
page for Coastal
Capital's investment strategies or see fund
types page for a broader list and description
of hedge fund strategies);
-
the
investment markets where the strategies will be used
(Australia, Asia-Pacific, Global etc);
and
-
the
level of gearing, diversification and the degree of
market risk or directional bias
(see risk
management page).
-
Monitor
the account to ensure that the account is operated in the
manner expected
-
Be
able to easily and rapidly increase or decrease the amount
of capital in the account without having to perform
valuations
-
Obtain
a taxation outcome that may not be available through a
pooled fund
-
Set
an appropriate fee structure
-
Manage
surplus cash outside the securities account
-
Reduce
the possibility of theft or fraud
Given
the level of work and the fixed costs involved, we usually
recommend that the account size should be a minimum of A$15
million.
